Wow! It has been along time since I have written. I know, I know.....and I don't have any original excuse besides...stuff....it is what it is. Since I last blogged I had a summer Art show, had many visitors for summer holidays, kids started school again, went home for Thanksgiving and my youngest boy broke his leg...and I am back at work....and had another Art Show...and now its Christmas!!! Yikes! Can time fly. and...I have also been working on another project that I am quite excited about...It's in the works, but go check it out and see what's to come!

September already!
Yes, I have been away from my blog, it seems, like forever. Summer was busy, but now its time to get back to work!
yay!
kIZZ is going through some changes, and I hope that I can count on your patience.
My shops on Esty and Art Fire have limited items......for the time being, but all my new designs will be shared on Facebook, so if anything interests you, don't hesitate to send a message. I will be posting more designs soon.
My goal for 2010 and 2011 is to include my own metalsmithing designs and work in kIZZ.!
Its very exciting, but oohh.... time is needed. 8)

I've Been Indie Spotted Today!

As of late, i have had trouble with anything creative and that includes writing on my blog.

Yesterday many thoughts came to me and i want to briefly get them down.

Today, well actually yesterday, marks 3 years since i was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

It was something that i didn't want to focus on yesterday, as it was my oldest son, Kevin's 15 th birthday. As i look back i am saddened that when Kevin turned 12, i was celebrating his birthday on the outside, but on the inside i was overtaken with fear of not knowing how many of his, or my other sons' birthdays i would see. How was i going to handle telling my young boys of what was to come. For the first time in my life i was fearful of the future. Well, i, my husband and boys and the rest of my family made it through what was to come and to this date i have beat it.
It was not an easy road, for not only for me, but for the people who love me.Why me? Why not me. Take one for the Team. Everything happens for a reason.

So this is where i am at now. It was also yesterday that Kevin said that he had a school project to do. He had chosen to do a brochure on Breast Cancer. So it was yesterday again, 3 years later, that we had a discussion around this disease. Definitely on a more positive note. Kevin said that his teacher asked why he picked breast cancer, as it was an odd topic for a boy.
He replied it was because his mom has had it.

I have to say, it was difficult to relive the information that he was to include in his project, but it was also fulfilling to see how Kevin has matured in the last 3 years. I find it ironic that these events and tasks to be done took place at this time. Or maybe not ironic. Maybe it all was to answer to a question that i have had since having my 3 boys.
Why did i not have a girl? I now know why and am thankful that i did not bring a girl into this world knowing that her chances of battling the same disease would be 50%.
Yes, again i am reminded that everything happens for a reason.
Finally, i feel both relieved and anxious. Relieved that this in the past but anxious as to what the future will bring.

Today the sun is out and summer is on its way.
Time to keep this as just a memory.

well it's the early hours of sunday morning and as i review my emails, i see that "OMG!" i forgot that i was scheduled to post for Blog It Forward on Friday Feb. 12, 2010.

I am working on a Cancer Awareness project. I am making Bracelets and Necklaces. I will then donate $5 from every sale. But first I wanted the Awareness Ribbon to be very personal...I wanted my own design. So this is what I created.

This is my first attempt at the craft of working with metal.

UNVIELING THE AWARDS...& STUFF....

Ok..now that the Art Tour is over and visitors...my great cousins- have gone home...boo hoo....it is time to catch up on things here in the blog world.

On July 2, 2009 I was "TAGGED" Yikes!!!!! yup, the dreaded tag.... I was tagged by
Dee from Runako Designs, (awesome jewelry designer & very entertaining blogger...just sayin.....) and by no means do I dread it at all... it's just finding the time to sit and reflect on oneself and actually share these things.
Soo....I will now attempt to share with you 10...hopefully, somewhat interesting... facts about myself. Also, as Dee said...don't hold your breath..cause this could be a while....8)

1. My full name is Crystal Germaine Kneller...ok quit laughing at my middle name.....not sure its that funny but as a kid, it was hilarious to others...hhmmm.
To this day still don't understand why some people do the things they do....sometimes its really not that "funny" the way things turn out. ok there i was going on another tangent....

2. My mom was 30 when she had me and I was 30 when my first son was born...For my 30th birthday I took my mom to the ultrasound and she saw her grandson for the first time...I will never forget that day. He was born 1 month later. I have 3 boys now.

3. I've know my husband since we were 13 years old. We didn't find that luv thing till we were 27 years old.

4. My cat, Simon, thinks he is a dog, and is now 16 years old. He is older than my kids.

5. My motto to myself and my kids is to always get done what you are supposed to do... then you can really enjoy what you want to do.

6. My profession is in social work. Worked in an emergency shelter in Edmonton, AB for 10 years.

7. Once my kids started coming...I helped my husband on our farm. We have calved out over 400 calves and fed over 1200 steers in one season. I miss that.

8. In 2007, we picked up and moved to British Columbia, to be closer to the sun, water and mountains. But I miss my family & friends. Have met some great new girls, whom I have had some crazy fun with. Us middle aged chicks have it still goin on....

9. Also, in 2007, I battled breast cancer and won! oh yah...spring 2008, i also broke my hip skiing...didn't know for 10 days....They called me Super Woman from Krypton in the hospital. They all had a good laugh at my expense..LOL

10. Finally, I luv to make jewelry. I am addicted to it, and I spend more than I should...but keep doing it. I am also luvin everything to do with interacting online.

Well there you have it. Not too easy to do but did help with my organizational thought.

Shortly after being "tagged" I was surprised by a blogger award that I very much appreciate! The rules for this award sort of coincide with the ones of "tagged" ...so as jane said....give me a time out ....because I want to incorporate the two.

WHAT A WEEK!

I have been away from posting for a while, as have had many things going on here. WoooW! Busy, exciting, scary and fun are words to describe the last 2 weeks. I want to quickly share a bit of it with you.

About 3 weeks ago, we had forest fires start here in the Okanagan, BC. I has been tragic and some homes have been lost but mostly just forest lost. Our fire department and the help of many other firefighters from across the nation have been awesome in keeping homes and businesses safe. We have a big fire across the lake from us. It has been quite the natural disaster to witness. It is still going, not sure the hectares lost to this day, but a couple of days ago it was around 7500.

These pictures are taken from our deck, on August 2, 2009.

Then last weekend I participated in The Carrs Landing Art Tour. It was a great success and I had a great time promoting my designs and meeting many new people both in the area and ones that were holidaying. I really appreciate the support of my friends who came by too!

Good Day all! Yipee! Thank you for such a great response to my last post on the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. My niece, Karli, has reached here goal to walk in the event. We are all very excited and will cheer her on in August. Thank you too, Karli, for your effort in this cause.

FOR THE CAUSE FRIDAY.

Yesterday I was reminded of a journey I started in April 2007. I went to have a mammogram....my 18 month check up mammogram....which will also include an MRI at the end of July. It is 18 months since I finished chemotherapy and radiation.

I remember the day, March 23, 2007, all too well. My mammogram day. This was my third time having a mammo and I was expecting to follow the regular routine....get dressed and go. But this day was not the regular routine...I was the one in the waiting room that was told to wait. Well, I knew and the rest of the women in the waiting room knew what that meant. The feeling in that waiting room was overwhelming......a need to reach out and a need to be reached. But all sat quiet and motionless, as if my fate was contagious.

After that day I underwent surgeries and tests and on April 18, 2007, those words...."yes, it is cancer", were directed at me. Those were words only heard by others. I knew people who had heard those words themselves, but my own fear, ignorance, denial, whatever...enabled me to close my eyes and be silent to it. On that day, my eyes were opened wide and I was no longer silent, but screaming inside and out. Thoughts of dying and leaving my boys, my husband, my family...my life.... pierced such fierce panic in me that I thought I would literally die of fright right then and there.

But I didn't. I fought the disease and I have hopefully won. I am forever changed because of the experience. Physically, mentally and emotionally. A day doesn't go by that I don't think about breast cancer. I fear every ache and pain. I fear that it will return and I fear no cure. I also fear the tests... but am thankful that there are tests, like mammograms, MRI's and utlrasounds.

The reason that I am disclosing something so personal today is not only because that's all that is on my mind but for another reason.... The Cause. I recently visited my family back home and found out that my nephew's girlfriend, whom I will fondly refer to as my niece, will be walking in "THE WEEKEND TO END BREAST CANCER" She reveals she will walk for me...my name on her T-shirt. Her thoughtfulness overwhelms me and if I were telling you this, instead of writing you this, you would see my tears, of so many emotions, begin to spill uncontrollably.

In order for her to participate in the actual walk, she needs to raise $2000, and any less she will just donate but not walk. She is very passionate about this cause, as I am. I know this walk is one of many ways the world tries to raise $ for the cure of Breast Cancer. I am asking you to contribute to this one, to my niece, Karli's, walk to help. No matter what province, state, country or continent you live on...a donation of any kind, to this cause, will help all woman everywhere today and tomorrow. It may be for you, your mom, your sister.....Karli would appreciate your help...so she can help! 8)

All donations have to be in by August 1, 2007.

Wow! I can't believe it's the beginning of July. The kids are out of school, the weather is great, people are on holidays and summer is in full force. How does one find time to keep up with their responsibilities at such a time when all we want to do is just enjoy family, friends, fun and relaxation? Well....we try our best eh?
I just wanted to take a minute to show you some of my most recent designs. They are a mixture of many beads and stones....a kind of chaos....hhmmm......actually.......
a reflection of my life right now...LOL

This bracelet includes some of my most favorite colors and materials and I wanted it to be something that could be worn for everyday and for every season. I hope this scattered mixture peaks your interest creates conversation.

(a combination of fancy jasper, pyrite & labradorite; cats eye; polymerclay beads; czech fire polish beads; swarovski cyrstals; glass gold seed beads)

This is my brass charm bracelet creation. These colors of reds and browns are my favorites to add and compliment this non tarnish brass chain. This delicate and classy piece is also for any occasion.

Want to thank everyone who helped me out in the Art Fire contest for the last week! wow, alot of comments and 'Likes". You are all Awesome! The competition was tough and I'm sure I came up close! Congrats to the winner, Cher Whittle!

I had a fantastic time when my family & I went to Alberta for my mom & dad's 150 th Birthday Party! wahoo! They both turned 75 this year and we had a big celebration, entertaining and feeding 100 people! The day was sunny and warm...just a great day!

Now I am back home and back to the grind.....I have many things on the go right now....and will fill you in as I go. For the next while I will be concentrating on creating, as on August 1 & 2 , I will be participating in an Art Tour in my area.

This Art Tour is in Lake Country, BC and many local artists participate. Awesome event. I will post more closer to the date!

Also keep your eyes out for the Blockhead Radio Artisan Directory Magazine! It will come out on August 1, 2009. I have reserved an ad and am very excited about it!

I will keep you posted on all the happenings as they go! Yipee!!!

Summer is full force and my kids are anxiuos to spend time at the beach and see their friends.....I hope I can find time to get all I need done with everything and everyone! I have a feeling my time on the computer is going to be cut down......oh withdrawl.....8)

Wow! I cannot believe it is already Thursday! I wanted to have this post done for Monday! Oh well, better late than never, I guess! 8)

This is definietly a fun graphics toy! I love this kind of stuff. I am an "artsy graphic addict". On this site you can customize your own word cloud. You can do pretty much what you want. You can import words from your own websites or input words on our own. You can share your word cloud with the world or just keep it for yourself. (its a good idea to read the FAQ)

Save it as a PDF and print them on business cards, flyers, t-shirts, signs...whatever your heart desires. Use it as an interesting and colorful graphic for your blog sidebar, or make it an avatar. Great for advertising!

PSSSST! Something new with a deal!

I have been busy these days trying to organize my handmade so as to create some sense of organization in my space. While doing so....I...well had to put this together. As I was attempting to straighten up these individual beads, left over from other projects, they came a callin...This is what happened and I wanted to share it with you first!

This bracelet is put together with the last of my beautiful red/rose coral, that my mom picked up in Ukraine, last year. I added clay Ladaki beads and finished it off with a brass square toggle clasp. To add just a bit of zip and sparkle, it is adorned with a brass coin charm and glass fire polished beads. I'm hoping you all like it.

Finally, for a quick note, I want to show you the matching earrings.... These are also put together with red/rose corral and hung on gold-fill shepherd hooks.
They make a nice set for any occasion. I am still partial to dressing up my jeans and T-shirts with a little color!

ARTISAN EARRINGS to SCOOP!

Ooohhh, now that I have some solutions to my deer problems, I have time to show you some new earrings. A few posts ago, I showed you where I bought some unique & funky earwires. Well, here is what I did with them. The stones and beads I used were faceted fancy jasper, pryite, swarovski crystal hearts, gold foil glass beads and fire polished glass beads. The earwires are either sterling silver, vermeil, gold filled or brass. Very simple, to wear everyday with anything. What do you think? Hopefully someone will fall in love with them and scoop a pair up....I can hardly wait to buy more wires to work with.

LOVE THEM...BUT STOP EATING ALREADY! Can anyone help?

I LOVE THESE CREATURES....BUT STOP EATING EVERYTHING!

I am crossing my fingers that spring is here to stay and that my yard will start blooming soon....now if all those DEER would just leave the greens and blooms alone. Don't get me wrong....I love the graceful beings...But.....STOP EATING EVERYTHING! We live in the mountains and the deer are in our yard alot! They eat everything that they think looks good...and that means all green leaves and flowers. I planted roses last fall and I do hope to see some of their color this year.

In particular....(among many others), this darling mom visits consistently throughout the year. We love to watch her and each of her new babies grow. This is them last summer, just outside our back deck. They are just in the grass.....but a few feet away are other goodies they like. I don't want to them to not be around, but would like it if they could limit their munching to certain foliage in our yard.

HELP!!!

Do you know any tricks or remedies on how to discourage deer from eating flowers and/or garden varieties......besides a BIG FENCE? LOL Is there anything to spray on my roses to keep these lovely beings from snacking on them? I would love some help and insight into this problem I have. Feel free to leave your words of wisdom in my comments.

I know my neighbors would love the advice too....:)

I AM DEFINITLEY A FAN OF BRACELETS!

Cuff bracelets. One of my favorite types of bracelets. The wider the better, for me. This piece was inspired by, yes...Wilma Flintstone. I used to watch The Flintstones every lunch hour in elementary school.....ohhhh...some 30 or so years ago... hhmmm. Still a great show. This gem looks awesome with anything you wear. Today is my birthday...yipee....well, I think yipee. As the years go by, I now know what people older than me meant about wanting to "forget" birthdays. No more lying about the "oh, I'm 29 and holding...haha...what you don't believe me?" thing. Yah, I'm one of the older ones now...But really....its not how many years....its the many years how.....How I did that, how I went there, how I got that. Right? Experience is grand! And to top off the excitement I have had to wear green every year or be tortured in some way. What is up with that anyway? But, I do love being born on St. Patricks Day. It really does make your day more exciting. You can go to any pub and surly there will be a promo on "green beer" that day. Now what other day does that happen on, eh?

I have been having fun exploring bracelets on Art Fire this weekend! What I found were bracelets that were created out of materials that were not the norm of beads, gemstones and metals. TOO FUNKY ARE THESE CREATIVE ARTISANS! What an imagination to craft such unique bracelets using various mediums such as wool, felt, string, ribbon, fabric, paper, canvas and grass. Truly unique are each of these beautiful works below.

I have been spending the last week trying to learn more about blogging and how some become so popular. I have explored many blogs and am amazed at what I found. A particular blog that I came across is one that I will refer to for as long as I blog.

This BLOG DOCTOR is my new KING when it comes to information on blogging. He talks about everything. Very cool stuff. It will take me a while to implement even a few of his recommendations but I will keep on keepin on..... Today I'm thinking....hhmmmm... I'm lovin my followers! What's a blog without followers? Well, the answer is pretty obvious...not much. Unless you just want to write stuff down and I guess, don't have a pen and notebook with you. That would be private and a blog....is not private. I know that for people to follow you, you should:

1. be consistent in your postings.
2. be interesting.
3. feature your stuff and others stuff.

Gemstones..What do you think?

In the midst of my Saturday of snow storms and volleyball tournaments, I put together a spotlight of some of my favorite pieces to share with you. I am fascinated with gemstones of all kinds and the meanings and legends that go with them. As of late, I have been complimenting different stones with brass to create some interesting pieces.

In these I have used jasper (protection for stabalization and healing), labradorite (power stone to strengthen your intuition), black onyx (a protection stone to relieve stress and gain emotional stabitlty), red tiger's eye (beneficial for health & spiritual healing), red corral, blue howlite ( helps to overcome critical or selfish behavior, place it in your pocket to absorb your own anger) and blue goldstone (to relieve anxiety & fear)). Whether the legends or meanings are fact or fiction...what could it hurt to believe. What do you think?

My Baba, (grandma) had a family ring. As a kid, I always admired it and thought, when I grow up and have my own kids, I want one too. Now my Baba is gone and I miss her dearly. I am now a mom of three boys and still think of that family ring. I am always looking for one that will match my life. Today the items that signify family are very different, and they are beautiful! For my Baba, it would be the modern way to symbolize your family. I want to share some with you. Then I will start on dropping hints around here.

Good day to all! Have had a few busy days of....well don't really know....but have been busy with... EVERYTHING HANDMADE. Also waiting for it to snow so we don't have to ski on ice...Spring Break is coming soon and don't want our season passes to go to waste. I see in the forecast.....Snow! Yeh!

Upon reading her profile on her blog, All About Keepsake Treasures, I can't help but be in awe of the experience of this interesting lady. GOT SOME THINGS DONE!

Well it has been a few days...time sure flies and even though I am new to this blogging thing, I feel a sense of responsibility to keep up to date....interesting....
So what have I been up to since last...I know I have spent a lot of time looking at all the talent out there. Many...and so diverse...& this is just in the world of jewelry making!

HUMBLE BEADS...no need to be humble.

My finding this time is Humblebeads.com. The artist is Heather Powers, and she creates beautiful focal beads from polymer clay. She can also be seen on Etsy. Humblebeads.etsy.com If you haven't already discovered her beautiful work, be sure to take a look.

MY ART FIRE FINDS...keepin it a home.

I was on a mission as I will be featuring some of my work at a local shop where I live. I am told that earrings are a favorite of the regulars. I decided to utilize my jewelry supply resources on Art Fire to have "truly handmade".

My first stop was at Ebb and Flo Pomo Mama Designs, in British Columbia, Canada. The designer is Amanda and I feel like I know her as we have come in contact in many different places on the web. We are both fans of each others Facebook Stores, we follow each other on Twitter and we both live in Beautiful British Columbia. After all that, I took my boys skiing on Saturday to Big White. Great place to ski! The sun was shining and the weather was warm. No complaining from any of us.

Well yesterday ended well! I had a sale from my Art Fire shop! Shipped it out this morning. I feel so excited when that happens and then comes the anxiety. Will it arrive to the buyer safely...will they be satisfied and finally...will they leave good karma! Since I am a newbie (word I learned from my fellow artisans) to selling on line...this process is a little stressful.
After getting my kids going to their buses...."MOM!!!!!....you forgot what? I don't know where it is...The bus is WAITING!? Take this instead. RUN!" I'm sure you all have been there some days too... I settled down to catch up on things.
No, no, no....no kickboxing this morning....My body parts are still recouping ( I thought the word was recouperating...not in my dictionary) . I thinkn', maybe yoga? LOL
Anyway, I started with reading Art Fire Beta update from yesterday. There was a referral to an interesting site.
It was introduced as "Help Erika at http://Tryhandmade.com fight for the handmade revolution."
Well, I said to myself...that's cool ( a word from my generation). So I checked it out and was really enthused about it and joined the cause, so to speak. I submitted my shop to Erika's "Businesses Run by Humans" directory...waiting for a reply, and signed my Art Fire shop up to support handmade!
By adding my shop to the site it shows support and it will be displayed on the randomly rotating feature spot on the side bar. Now that's sweet in itself, eh? (sweet...meaning good, cool, far out....not a vocab word from my generation, but i hear it from my kids a lot). There is also paid advertising spots too.
Now the badge will find a place on my stuff. You may want to check it out too.

I first came across it from Stacy on Indie. She wrote me asking me to check her site out and that she liked my jewelry. She wanted to feature it on this site. Wow, certainly, I was very excited. Checked the site out and it is very cool! It is like the "IDOL" of fashion. All types of fashion. Designers, artists, models submit their portfolios and then the public votes! "you decide the trends of tomorrow". You can vote on designers as a whole and/or on their individual pieces. There is a lot of talent out there! They also have weekly contests.

I Better Write Something! I Have a Follower!

Well, I think I am ready to actually start my blog. I have spent much time thinking about how to go about it, so as to talk about things that are relevant to what the purpose of my blog is and things that won't put all to sleep. And....how the heck to you even get people to find your blog, read your blog and wow...hopefully follow you.

I have been spending much time reading other blogs (very interesting stuff) to understand this blogging world better. Is it the person writing the blog, the topic, the incentives and give aways or things being taught on a blog which gets people hooked....My conclusion is...its all of the above. I am hoping to offer some of the above, once I get the hang of it all, but for now its just me.

A little about me.....mom of 3 great boys all entering their teens. 13,12 & 9. Yes, I know what you are saying....."Holy crap! You must be busy!" Well, I do know this... as they get older their appetites, shoes sizes, space needed in our Jeep, all get bigger along with their desires/wants, concerns, problems and HOMEWORK! I thought I was done with school....How many sports do you want to be involved with?! But they are caring and responsible boys so far. What more could you ask for?

My husband is a smart, caring and hardworking guy...and what more could you ask for there.

I guess with all that out of the way I will get on with other things.
Being new to this, I will probably ramble along the way....I will try to instill some type of organization...

My educational background is in social services field, but I have not worked out of the home since having kids. I do come from an artistic family so have always had fun experimenting with all types of art. Once I discovered beads (which the term to me consists of beads, gemstones, findings and everything to create) I was hooked. Started small and now onto having quite the inventory to work with...I should really organize that some day.

I have been "beading" for about, hhmmm, 6 years now? I have been involved with farmers' markets, craft shows and have held jewelry parties at my home and others. All was great fun! and I did make a bit of money on the side.
In Spring of 2007, got the dreaded diagnosis of breast cancer....that is another blog...but I put my beading away for about a year...Didn't really think that I would return to it and was even amusing the thought of selling all supplies and inventory. Well that started to be more work (in organizing) than I thought so I just started to bead again. I'm glad I did, because in the misdst of exploring new ways to sell my jewelry, I found Art Fire! "The place for everything handmade." Now I am here, and many other places too. Wow is that rambling?

I am having a great time learning how to network and promote my jewelry business, KIZZ DESIGNS INC. Not to mention the incredible talent of all the artisans I have come in contact with on this journey, so far.

And that's what my blog will be about...My day to day....well maybe week to week...journey of trying to fit in and earn respect within this world of talented artists and internet selling. Along with sharing my works, I will also share the work of my favorite artisans.

My first artisan to share with you, (who also happens to be my first follower) is LeelaBijou. Thank you LeelaBijou! I believe that I first noticed the work of LeelaBijou on We Love Art Fire. I had to see more so I checked on Art Fire and there she was. She does beautiful work with swarovski crystals & silver and I have added her to my market and will follow her blog too.
